The Cloud is changing everything!

Everywhere you look, the buzz, is about “the cloud”.   The question is why is the notion of cloud
computing having such a profound effect on document management?  The answer comes in two (2) parts:

First and probably most important is it has everyone is talking
about something new and exciting.  We
have been stuck in a paradigm of PCs, servers, purchased software licenses, etc
for some time and frankly many people are tired of it.  Business executives especially are done with
being held captive by IT departments that have one way of operating, that being,
more new hardware and the latest version of software, all at more money.  The cloud offer a new way to approach the issue
and it does so at the expense of the IT department, the hardware and software
promoters.  Here someone else manages all
of the complicated issues; software updates included.  We don’t think that cloud computing is for
everyone or every company, but we do believe that it offers a way to at least
change the conversation, for the first time in a long time.

Second – The cloud breaks the strangle hold that a few
document management companies have had on the pricing model.  Yes, there are some smaller players that
offer products at a lower price, but moving document management to the cloud
changes all of the rules.  Now quality
products are being made available at prices that a few years ago would have
been unheard of.  And, yes, I know that
all document management offered in a SaaS delivery model isn’t and never will
be cloud computing.  The point is that
cloud computing has business executives talking about moving more critical
business information off site…to the cloud. 
Simply stated, it has changed the conversation.

So where do we go from here? 
Well, as this conversation continues more companies that were reluctant
to engage in a discussion about document management are going to be willing to
look seriously into a SaaS delivery method for a document management solution
and this will be good for us all.
